Cartoon Forum 2009

I’m back from the Cartoon Forum  in Norway which was an exceptionally eventful week.

Celebrating 20 years, the Cartoon Forum is the key event of any animation producer’s calendar. In this time, it has financed over 300 television series worth over 1.5 Billion Euro. Over 70 producers pitch projects to an audience of broadcasters, investors and co-producers and it a great networking opportunity for producers of children’s programmes. I was travelling with director Nicky Phelan and Kathleen O’Rourke who is the creator and performer of Granny O’Grimm and we were there to pitch Granny to them. (more…)

Brown Bag named European Producer Of The Year!

News just in from the Cartoon Forum in Stavanger, Norway: Brown Bag Films has won the Producer Of The Year award as part of the EU CARTOON TRIBUTE 2009!

We’re delighted with this prestigious award, which comes a day after the hugely successful presentation of our series ‘Granny O’Grimm’ at the Forum yesterday. The presentation was attended by 240 people, the largest audience at the Forum.  Even Granny herself made an appearance, and took the opportunity to give the audience a piece of her mind!

More news from the Forum coming soon…

The Audio Room Revolution!

“Ooh, pretty swanky”…..

“That’s a whole heap of shiny buttons”…..

No, they weren’t talking to me…….instead they were commenting on Brown Bag’s new audio suite which has undergone a bit of a revolution. As you’ve probably gathered from our blog, the last 14 months has been pretty full-on getting Olivia, Noddy in Toyland and a smattering of commercials through post production, so this past month has been a welcome bit of downtime. We had taken our previous audio system as far as we could so it was time to move up in the digital world.

Up’s Irish Premiere

On an unusually sunny Sunday for Ireland I found myself at the cinema …but I didn’t mind at all as it was for the premiere of Pixar’s new film, Up.

Though I was initially very annoyed when I first heard that Up wasn’t going to be released in Ireland until October 9th – over 4 months after its US release - I still couldn’t wait to see it.

Luckily for me, 3 weeks before its general release, I got to see Up at the Irish premiere which was presented in stunning Disney Digital 3-D. There was also a Q&A afterwards with writer/director Pete Docter and producer Jonas Rivera. (more…)

What’s in a name?

The official annual ranking of baby names for England and Wales has been published recently by the Office for National Statistics and ‘Olivia’ has topped the poll for the girls!

With Brown Bag’s series Olivia being so well recieved across the pond, is it just a coincidence or what?!

23 Degrees 5 Minutes – Making Of, Part 3

There’s a scene in the script for 23 Degrees 5 Minutes that says:

A high angle looking down over College Green in Dublin. It is the turn of the century and the streets are full of men in top hats walking and horse drawn carriages.

Professor Orit (Voiceover)
If God ever spoke to us he would sing in Calculus

The camera moves down and towards the gates of the college.
