Christmas Time at Brown Bag Films

Brown Bag Films celebrated Christmas in style last Friday with a Casino night at the Mansion House on Dawson St. We began the festive celebrations on Friday afternoon by popping open a bottle of champagne, pulling a few crackers and opening up our Secret Santa presents from under the office Christmas tree while listening to some festive tunes.

Work Experience at Brown Bag Films

Brown Bag receive a large number of requests for work experience placements from school and college students with an interest in animation and art. Unfortunately due to limited places and a very busy production schedule we can’t accommodate everyone, but we try to offer placements to as many students as possible.

Recently 4th year student Elle Power joined us for a work placement and was kind enough to blog for us about her experience:

Work experience at Brown Bag Films

Before I applied for work experience at Brown Bag Films, pretty much anything I knew about a real animation studio was from ‘behind the scenes’ of Pixar movies – not all that much. I always wanted to know what it’d be like to work in that environment. I’ve always wondered how they design, create and animate characters and environments and then compose them around a story to make a film! It’s incredible to me, where do you start? (more…)

Granny O’Grimm’s Christmas Greeting

As you may have guessed, Granny O’Grimm is not a fan of Christmas. As she said herself on Twitter, the only enjoyment she gets from Christmas is in reminding her grandchildren that Santa has them under constant surveillance – one wrong move and they’re in trouble!

To keep us on our toes, Granny has recorded a special Christmas message from her living room:

And remember…Santa is always watching

Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice

Every year in Brown Bag Films we support an Irish Children’s Charity. Last year we supported the Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street, by purchasing a mobile X-Ray unit for their hospital. This year we made a significant donation to the Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice.

The Laura Lynn Hospice is not yet operational but they hope to have the doors open in 2011 for what will be the first and only children’s hospice in Ireland. Fundraising is vital for them and we were very pleased to have been in a position of support for them this year.

Can video games be considered art?

Video games have been around for more than 30+ years now. What started out as a cheap, basic, monotone medium is now worth more than the movie industry at 40 billion. Not too shabby for a few ‘blip blips’ eh?!

Even though videogames are worth more money now than any other media, gaming is still considered a niche market. I still get funny looks from people when I say I play video games. Some think I need to grow up, others think I’m going to blow something up, while others think it’s just a phase. (more…)
