The Brown Bag crew’s LA Oscar trip

Now that we’ve had time to settle back to reality after the Oscars,  the photos and anecdotes from the various parties and events in LA are surfacing.

Ten Brown Bag staffers and a whole gang of family and friends headed over to LA to support Nicky and Darragh and cheer on ‘Granny O’Grimm’. Between all the Oscar nominees and their crew, the Irish contingent took over the hotel on Sunset! There were loads of events  each day surrounding the Oscars, and our gang got to quite a few.

Animator Jean Herlihy headed straight from LA airport to the Oscar Wilde party to celebrate Irish film, where Tom Cruise turned up on his motorbike to present an ‘Honorary Irishman’ award to JJ Abrams. (more…)

Brown Bag’s Night at the Oscars

Brown Bag didn’t bring home the Oscar for Granny O’Grimm (we lost out to French film Logorama), but Nicky, Darragh and the Brown Bag crew celebrated into the night nonetheless. Darragh talked to the Irish Times about his Oscar experience:

Brown Bag Through the Looking Glass

Through working in Brown Bag I have become a big fan of shallow depth of field in my photography. I recently purchased a Canon DSLR and discovered (not surprisingly considering the price) that the kit’s supplied lens is very limited. Don’t get me wrong, it has a decent range and works for most conditions if not pushed too far. But I realized that if I wanted to achieve more in my photography I would have to buy a new lens.

After some research I bought the Canon 50mm f1.8., mainly because it was cheap and also it has a very shallow depth of field. This lens is a great portrait lens for that reason and is really fun to use. The following are some pictures I took of some of my work colleagues.

Oscar Nominees Luncheon

The Granny O’Grimm gang are currently in LA, which has gone Oscar-mad in the build up to the ceremony on March 7th. All this week they will be visiting studios and attending screenings of the Oscar-nominated films.

A couple of weeks ago, Team Granny O’Grimm’s Hollywood experience kicked off with the Oscar Nominees Luncheon. Each year, all the nominees and their guests attend a lunch and ceremony to acknowledge their nominations. Cathal took a few photos while they were there:
