3ds Max 2010 looks set to be possibly the most rewarding release of 3ds Max in many years. The feature list hasn’t looked this good for quite a few releases. The big feature for me is Containers – this is a way to save objects into an external file that can later be referenced back into your scenes. This is great for pipelines where people have to work together, we have had Xrefs but they have some issues that reduce how useful they can really be.
Also in this release is “Flicker Reduced” renders with mental ray when using indirect illumination, Mental Mill ( a tool for creating mr Shaders without programming knowledge ) , improved cloth and particle flow tools, the inclusion of Character Animation Tools ( CAT ), and many more new features.
It looks like Autodesk have really been working hard this time round.
More info can be found on Ken Pimental’s blog , and although this is about 3ds Max design, Autodesk are saying that both versions will have the same new features this release.
