The National Film School (IADT) invited Oscar-winning John Canemaker to Dublin to spend some time with the students of the college. John’s journey as an animator, director and animation historian is inspirational and he has written many books that have been essential reading among the animation community.
As part of his visit to the college, a number of industry events were organised. Last Monday he gave a lecture in the Lighthouse Cinema based on his superb book “The Art and Flair of Mary Blair”.
Mary Blair was an enormously talented and prolific artist who influenced the design on some of the best Disney features. It was great to see her watercolours projected onto a large cinema screen and they held up so well at this size. Looking at her conceptual artwork, it is of little surprise how she captured the creative imagination of Walt Disney himself.
Before the lecture, John called into Brown Bag where we showed him around the studio and he got to see some of the various projects we are working on.
