In Commercials we recently finished a Kittensoft ad. This involved creating a photoreal kitten with full fur, something we hadn’t really done before, so it was quite a bit of a task ahead for us!
My job was to give the kitten the fur and light and render it. From working on the Lotto characters, I had some knowledge of hair/fur but this was totally different. The fur had to be applied and then groomed as if it was real hair. This was time consuming but it did pay off in the end. Many, many render tests were done. It was a rewarding ad to work on as we had so many technical problems with the fur throughout, but eventually these were overcome, and we were quite happy with the result, although I nearly ended pulling my own hair out at times! Good job Shane on the animation! Here are some stages from testing out the fur rendering process to share with you showing the different layers of fur and underlying skin.
And of course it’s always good to show some early stuff…
