The trailer for the adaption of Maurice Sendak’s classic Where the Wild Things Are has been online for a few weeks now and it looks fantastic.

It’s been a rough few years for director Spike Jonze to get it to this point, originally due for a Summer 2008 release. It’s been plagued with reshoots and delays (not a good thing 99% of the time!) and design changes since shooting began in 2005. But going by this early glimpse, it would seem the whole production went smoothly, so fingers crossed it’ll be as great as the book a lot of us grew up with!
Not many people are aware that in 1982 Disney held the rights to the book. John Lasseter and Glen Keane had just seen Tron and went about making their own test for Where the Wild Things Are. Using 2D and computer animation they came up with this pretty cool test:
Seeing as much time and expensive resources were spent on it Lasseter was given a stern warning: “The only reason to do computer animaton is if we can do it faster and cheaper….” Lasseter had the last laugh there! I would love to have seen what would’ve become of their version though but I guess we all have to wait to see how Spike Jonze does.
We are now 8 months away from the December 11th release so fingers crossed this lives up to the brilliant trailer…

Sometimes I don’t get the high end technics… I had just assumed that Benjamin Button was Brad Pitt with make up. Afterwards I saw all the tests & wondered, now what did they have to do all that work for?
