Pegbar’s Animation Event in Dublin

Norton Virgien, director of Rugrats and Duckman, and currently directing Disney’s ‘Doc McStuffins’ here at Brown Bag, will be speaking at Pegbar’s animation event this Friday 15 April.

Pegbar is an animation networking group based in Dublin. Friday’s event takes place at the Science Gallery.

Pegbar & the Science Gallery will be hosting a series of short talks, giving an insight into the creativity and technology behind the animation that we see on our screens today. Our guest speakers will include, Norton Virgien (Director of Rugrats and Duckman), Jason Tammemägi (Director of Fluffy Gardens and Ballybraddan) and renowned multimedia artist Fergal Brennan. After our series of talks, ticketholders can reside to the Trinity Inn for a few drinks, animations on screen and a bit of social networking.

Watch Pegbar all this week on Twitter  and Facebook where we will be having an internet giveaway, & revealing the spot prizes we will have available on the night!

Tickets are €6 and entry is at 5:45.  Grab some tapas downstairs in the cafe from 5:30 beforehand if you’re hungry!

Hope to see you there!

Nicky Phelan invited to The White House

Yesterday wasn’t your average Monday for Granny O’Grimm director Nicky Phelan. It’s not every day you get an invite to the White House from ‘The President and Mrs Obama’!

Nicky initially thought it was a joke when a woman at the American Embassy  rang Brown Bag Films to give him a heads-up that an invite was on its way. But on Monday he received the following request to join the Obamas for the annual St Patrick’s Day reception in Washington on March 17th.

Nicky Phelan's White House Invitation

I’m sure Nicky will report back on whether Barack Obama is an animation fan!

The brown bag has featured in our logo since Brown Bag Films was founded in 1994. Every day it is seen by children all around the world in the credits of our animated television series and short films, but until now it has never been animated.

We would love to see how talented designers and animators (that’s you!) would bring our logo to life. We’re inviting you to submit a 3-page treatment outlining your ideas, and we will contract the winner to produce our new animated logo. … read more

The Octonauts splashes onto the BBC on Monday!

The time has finally arrived when we get to share The Octonauts with the wider world! Our latest TV series launches on BBC’s CBeebies and BBC HD channels from next Monday, 4th October.

The Octonauts

Kwaazi, Barnacles & Peso!

The Octonauts invites children to take the plunge and go on an exciting voyage of discovery through the world’s oceans this autumn. Splashing onto CBeebies from Monday 4 October, The Octonauts are a new band of heroes who patrol the oceans and have thrilling adventures underwater.

Produced in Dublin by Brown Bag Films for children’s entertainment provider Chorion, the 52 eleven minute episodes are based on the richly imaginative books by design team, Meomi. Created in HD, The Octonauts combines classic team adventure with dazzling CGI animation to transport children to a deep underwater world they don’t normally visit.

“This has been the most technically challenging show that Brown Bag Films has produced to date”, says director Darragh O’Connell. “We have had an amazingly talented crew working around the clock for the last 18 months to create this wonderful series, and I think it’s going to set a new bar for kids TV animation.” … read more

Animation mentors

The brilliant website Letters Of Note, which unearths fascinating correspondence and posts a new letter each day, posted this letter from Pixar animator Aaron Hartline to an aspiring animator Willie Downs. I thought it was such a great letter of encouragement for anyone working to achieve their dream of being an animator

According to Letters Of Note, “Downs – a huge fan of Pixar from the beginning who, it seems, was simply in need of this very support illustrated below – has since taken Hartline’s advice and is currently a student of the animation school at which he teaches: Animation Mentor“.
