‘Olivia’ is going to be in competition in the TV series section of Annecy this year! This is a great honour as Annecy is an extremely difficult festival to get into due to the enormous amount of films entered.
It’s always been a challenge for Brown Bag to get our films into Annecy. Granny O’Grimm was never shown at the festival & our previous nominated film ‘Give up yer Aul Sins’ only played in Panorama but not in competition.
Over the years I’ve been to Annecy a couple of times and it’s a beautiful town to visit on the shores of Lake Annecy and overlooked by the Alps. They have a lot of evening time screenings and when the weather is warm it’s a beautiful way to watch some animated films.
Last time myself & Cathal were there was in 2002, there was a big Irish contingent and Enterprise Ireland actually funded a stand at the MIFA market celebrating the Irish animation industry.
Annecy was also the place where on a previous trip ( many years ago) I got locked out of the apartment in which I was staying, and as I didn’t have enough cash or a credit card at the time to book into a hotel I had to spend the night sleeping rough! That was interesting!
I’m looking forward to it this year as its the 50th Anniversary of the Annecy festival and so there are going to be a lot of special guests making an appearance. See you there for some tartiflette!!!
