Brown Bag didn’t bring home the Oscar for Granny O’Grimm (we lost out to French film Logorama), but Nicky, Darragh and the Brown Bag crew celebrated into the night nonetheless. Darragh talked to the Irish Times about his Oscar experience:

The Granny O’Grimm gang are currently in LA, which has gone Oscar-mad in the build up to the ceremony on March 7th. All this week they will be visiting studios and attending screenings of the Oscar-nominated films.
A couple of weeks ago, Team Granny O’Grimm’s Hollywood experience kicked off with the Oscar Nominees Luncheon. Each year, all the nominees and their guests attend a lunch and ceremony to acknowledge their nominations. Cathal took a few photos while they were there:

I’m back from the Cartoon Forum in Norway which was an exceptionally eventful week.
Celebrating 20 years, the Cartoon Forum is the key event of any animation producer’s calendar. In this time, it has financed over 300 television series worth over 1.5 Billion Euro. Over 70 producers pitch projects to an audience of broadcasters, investors and co-producers and it a great networking opportunity for producers of children’s programmes. I was travelling with director Nicky Phelan and Kathleen O’Rourke who is the creator and performer of Granny O’Grimm and we were there to pitch Granny to them.
News just in from the Cartoon Forum in Stavanger, Norway: Brown Bag Films has won the Producer Of The Year award as part of the EU CARTOON TRIBUTE 2009!
We’re delighted with this prestigious award, which comes a day after the hugely successful presentation of our series ‘Granny O’Grimm’ at the Forum yesterday. The presentation was attended by 240 people, the largest audience at the Forum. Even Granny herself made an appearance, and took the opportunity to give the audience a piece of her mind!
Irelands bitterest Granny unveils her own website this week as Brown Bag Films launch their latest creation; www.grannyogrimm.com.
Based on Nicky Phelan’s IFTA-winning short film ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’, the website accompanies the forthcoming 26 x 11 minute animated comedy series that will be launched at the Cartoon Forum in Norway on the 22nd of September and at Mipcom, Cannes this October.
We’ve just heard some great news: Brown Bag Films have been nominated for the prestigious ‘Producer of the Year’ award as part of the EU CARTOON TRIBUTE 2009! We are nominated alongside three other European animation studios, Normaal Animation (France), Alcuni (Italy) and BRB (Spain). The awards ceremony will take place at the CARTOON Forum in Stavanger, Norway on Friday 25th September. The winner will be voted by other European producers so it is a great honour for us to be selected.
Also at this years Forum, we will be presenting ‘Granny O’Grimm’ the series, and the other bit of great news is that it is the number one project on the Forum interest list!! ‘Granny O Grimm’ is based on the multi-award winning Frameworks short film (IFB/RTE/AC) by director Nicky Phelan and writer Kathleen O’Rourke. The website www.grannyogrimm.com will go live on 10 September and will feature Granny stories, film clips and competitions.
At the moment there’s a cantankerous blemish on Brown Bag Films’ development slate. Granny O’Grimm is loitering around, demanding attention and a television series.
